Spirit West private drive

Turning off Highway 230 into the Spirit West entrance, you sense there's something special hidden up ahead. Aspens, evergreens and wildflowers drape the winding lane with a lush blanket of color in spring, summer and fall. While the rest of the year, Jack Frost routinely coats the tangled branches with snow and ice, creating a glittering winter wonderland. This very private drive is a haven for deer and other wildlife, who scarcely notice the "intruders."

Around one last bend in the road is the main lodge, proudly flying the American and Wyoming flags. A stone walkway leads guests to the front door of the lodge; but it's not until you enter and descend into the great-room that the Spirit comes alive. Massive pine logs and a huge rock fireplace define the space within, while floor-to-ceiling windows provide a pastoral view that's framed by the Rocky Mountains.

Lynn's large kitchen opens into a sunny breakfast room, which offers a splendid view of the river and native wildlife. The formal dining room, used for private group events, features a natural rock wall speckled with brightly colored lichen and moss. The main lodge with its four private bedrooms and two kitchenettes is decorated in Indian and western decor, which complements the log construction and reflects Wyoming's "Wild West" heritage. Recognized as one of America's top wildlife and western artists, R.G. displays many of his own oil paintings and bronzes throughout the lodge.

Each private bedroom/bath opens onto a wide romantic deck that overhangs the Encampment River and runs the full length of the lodge. In nice weather breakfast is served outside, allowing guests to enjoy the sights and sounds of this beautiful backdrop. The crisp morning air and rippling river add a secret ingredient to Lynn's delicious breakfast and make that first cup of coffee taste extra special! In the evening, romantic lighting accents the bizarre twists and knots of deck's unique, custom designed railing, which is artistically constructed from hand-picked local timbers. On a clear Wyoming night, this is the perfect place to count the stars. . . sneak a kiss . . .and enjoy the spirit of the west.

In the great-room, garlands and a hand-cut (weather permitting) 20' fir tree add to the Christmas spirit -- and invite guests to gather around the fire.
